Wedding Ceremony

Etiquette for the Bride and Groom

Remember to arrive in good time for the start of your ceremony. It is no longer fashionable for the bride to arrive late and you need to be considerate of your guests

You also need to be aware that if you arrive later than the agreed ceremony time, (the time on the Notice of Intended Marriage), then the Celebrant has the right to proceed to their next appointment if they have one and return at a later time to perform your ceremony.

The venue which you have chosen to hold your wedding ceremony may also have another booking following your ceremony and this can lead to some very expensive and embarrassing moments for the intended bride and groom and your guests.

Late arrival of the bride or any part of the bridal party including guests and family, can cause numerous problems in the form of undue stress for the groom, the attendants, the Celebrant, your guests, especially the elderly and young children. These people have already been standing around for some time and tend to become tired and unsettled. So be considerate of your guests and of your Celebrant. Ensure that you arrive in adequate time.

Best Man's Duties

  • To make sure that the groom arrives at the ceremony location before the scheduled time
  • Assist in caring for the pageboy (if applicable)
  • Look after the wedding rings
  • Acts as the grooms witness to the marriage

Bridesmaids' Duties

  • Ensure that the bride is running to schedule with her ceremony time
  • Help the bride when she arrives at the ceremony by adjusting her dress, veil etc.
  • Assist in caring for the flower girl (if applicable)
  • Before the start of the ceremony adjust the bride's dress, train and veil
  • The bride may also request you to hold her bouquet until after the ceremony
  • Acts as the bride's witness to the marriage

You share today the joy of a deep commitment, and a sacred trust,
and you have given each other the most precious gift of love.
